Evidence Tier: Limited Human Data (Russia-approved) — Selank is a synthetic analog of the immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin with an added Pro-Gly-Pro sequence. Approved in Russia as an anxiolytic nasal spray.
Overview
Selank (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) is developed at the same Russian institute as Semax. It combines the active sequence of the naturally occurring immunopeptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) with a Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide that increases metabolic stability.
Mechanism of Action
- GABAergic Modulation: Allosteric modulation of GABA-A receptors, producing anxiolytic effects
- Serotonin/Norepinephrine: Modulates monoamine metabolism in the brain
- Enkephalin Stabilization: Inhibits enkephalin-degrading enzymes, enhancing endogenous opioid signaling
- Immune Modulation: Retains tuftsin's immunostimulatory activity
